Chinese New Year 2022 is here, and time flew super fast thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are grateful Malaysians are able to enjoy festive period this year without inter-state travel restrictions. However, let’s be mindful on our safe practices to avoid the spread of viruses and let’s also be mindful on our health during CNY.

We shall keep it simple for everyone to be able to cope healthy habits and there are 5 ways on how you can stay healthy during this CNY! It’s easy isn’t it?

Tip No. 1: Keep moving!

For an easier start, get up earlier in the morning and have a brisk walk with your whole family around your residential area or your favourite park with your furry kids! Ask yourself, when was the last time you brought your family to a happy walking session. If it’s something that you have not done in a long time, make this time to increase the happiness and bonding session with your loved ones. Happy mind leads to healthier you! You will also burn off some calories from all the feasting you have had, so win-win situation for both your body and your mind.

Tip No. 2: Boost your immune with Mandarin oranges!

Of course, you wish to visit family and friends during CNY festive period, so make sure your immune system is boosted. Plus, you might have received a lot of Mandarin baskets as gifts at home, so let’s eat them up yea. Fruits keep you satiated, so you will tend to feel full and not fall into the traps of over-indulging.

Tips on how not to overeat: Make yourself a fruit salad bowl (of course include Mandarins) before the feasting time.

Tip No. 3: Moderation is the Key

And most importantly, it’s not what you eat, it’s how much you eat. We are not telling you not to try CNY dishes and snacks at all, but to try in a moderate portion. Indulge in the taste of the food, savour it and enjoy, and not to over-indulge on the portion yea!

Tip No. 4: Practice Mindful Eating

Be mindful on what is going into your mouth, and you are all set. For example, if you had your fair share of sweet treats in a moderate portion, maybe you can skip sugary beverages and choose infused drink or sugar free juices. Remember, balance is the key to your health.

Tip No. 5: Stay Hydrated

This habit has been preached by health professionals and ancestors since ages back. And yet, some of us struggle to keep hydrated due to hectic lifestyle, not being mindful of our body and many personal reasons.
If you’re not the kind of person that prefer to drink a lot of water, you can always make infused drink. Simply add 2 slices of lemon into your water bottle (2L) and drink throughout the day.

Remember, it is okay to ‘say no’ to more snacks or portions when visiting your friends and family.

Stay Safe, Healthy & Prosperous!
