When people first heard the term "dietitian" (which many may not have even heard of before), their initial response was to ask for weight loss advise or a personalised meal plan. 

However, while dietitian can certainly provide guidance in these areas, their profession encompasses more than just weight loss. 

Where a Dietitian work?

Dietitian can work in a variety of settings, including hospital, food service, retail, community, sport field, gym centre and marketing. However, the majority of dietitians work in hospital as clinical dietitian. This is also the reason why most dietitian study dietetics at first. 

Difference between dietitian and nutritionist

One key difference between dietitians and nutritionists is that dietitian can work with both healthy and ill individual, while nutritionist are limited working with healthy individual.

One of the main focuses of dietitian is to practice Medical Nutrition Therapy(MNNT),which involve using evidence-based nutrition approaches to treat medical conditions. 

Dietitian are an important part of the medical team, working alongside with doctors, pharmacists, nurses and other healthcare professionals. 

Diet sounds not that important?

Frankly speaking, many people though that and this is very sad. Diet play a crucial role in the treatment and healing process, and undernutrition can lead to serious consequences, including weakened immunity or even death.

There are several medical conditions that may require the expertise of a dietitian, including

Unfortunately, dietitians are still not as highly valued as other professions like doctors and engineers.  However, as awareness about health increases, it is hoped that more people will come to understand the crucial role of dietitians play in maintaining health and wellbeing.
